Positive Step Forward for Sustainable New Community Near Doncaster Sheffield Airport

Plans to deliver a sustainable new community adjacent to Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) have taken a major step forward with the approval of two planning applications for new homes, including affordable homes, at Hurstwood, GatewayEast.

Approved at City of Doncaster Planning Committee on Tuesday 18th November, having been deferred from the previous meeting, the proposals will provide much-needed open market affordable housing, high-quality public spaces, and accessible community facilities. The development includes comprehensive green and recreational infrastructure to promote active lifestyles and sustainable communities.

The approvals mark an important milestone in the delivery of GatewayEast, a strategic growth zone identified by the City of Doncaster Council for its potential to attract investment, create jobs, and meet housing needs for future generations.

These applications are advancing the long-term vision to establish a thriving, sustainable new community supported by improved transport connections, and a new town centre serving residents and businesses in the area.

Stephen Wild, Managing Director, Peel Land said: “We are delighted with today’s decision by the City of Doncaster Council’s Planning Committee to approve the applications for our proposal to bring forward new homes in the area. This forms part of a long-term commitment – Gateway East – to continue to create new homes, new jobs and encourage new communities in Doncaster. This site at Hurstwood, located near to Doncaster Sheffield Airport has been identified by the local council as a significant growth zone and forms part of a wider masterplan for GatewayEast that envisages new employment space and a new town centre. The delivery of this residential community will provide the homes that support economic growth and to position GatewayEast as a key hub for investment in Yorkshire and the North of England.”
